Status: Opening Tonight
The Stillmans closed Hurricane Steak & Sushi (FKA Hurricane Club) at the end of December, with plans to open a completely different restaurant in that space. And tonight, Michael and Alan are making good on their promise with the debut of General Assembly, a bistro with a menu that has French and Italian influences and includes a lot of dishes that are currently popular in New York City. Craig Koketsu, formerly of Hurricane Club and Park Avenue, is the chef here. He's serving fried skate, roasted chicken, a fancy $19 burger, rabbit Wellington, and steak frites. The menu also has crudités (so hot right now), raw bar items, and "raclette service," which is probably something that's worth order. Because it's a Stillmans joint, there's a 50/50 chance that this dish will come on a cart, engulfed in flames.
The design titans at AvroKo created a space that is partially inspired by the Art Nouveau era. Stay tuned for pictures of the dining room later this week, check out the dinner menu below, and please send any early reports our way.
