WEST VILLAGE — John McDonald and Josh Capon are currently adding a private dining room space to El Toro Blanco, which they plan to have open by April. It will have space for 38 people, and McDonald tells Eater that the decor will be "club-like, with wood paneling, carpet, and vintage Mexican art/objects." When not in use for a private event, the dining room will open up to walk-ins to cut down on the wait. [EaterWire]
WILLIAMSBURG — Brooklyn Oenology is hosting a pop-up sushi dinner on March 12, 13, 18 and 19. Mayanoki, a sushi supper club, will serve a sushi omakase dinner paired with a glass of Brooklyn Oenology's locally made wine. The meal is $65 per person, with additional a la carte appetizers also available. Tickets can be bought online. [EaterWire]
HANGOVER OBSERVATIONS — Last night Mother Jones journalist Tom Philpott hosted a discussion on chefs and diversity with Gabrielle Hamilton, Marcus Samuelsson, Floyd Cardoz, and Charlene Johnson-Hadley. Eater National has a recap of the 10 best lines, including Hamilton's discussion of figuring out how to act in a male-dominated kitchen: "Should I be a chain-smoking dirt-talking motherf*cker who can crank it f*cking out? Or should I be kind of a dainty female with lipstick and be like 'Can you help me with this stock pot because I just can't?'" [~EN~]
