For Slices, Joe DiStefano Heads to Lucia Pizza and Dani's

Throughout the rest of Pizza Week, the city's top food bloggers will be sharing their pics for neighborhood pizzerias. These are not necessarily the vaulted pie parlors of the city, but rather the places where you pick up a slice or a pie on your way home from work. Up now: Joe Distefano, of Chopsticks and Marrow, shares his pizza picks:

Joe DiStefano: As an Italian-American boy who's made his bones writing about Flushing Chinatown, I don't eat all that much pizza these days. One of my favorite old-school New York City slices can be had at Lucia Pizza (136-55 Roosevelt Ave., Flushing, 718-445-1313). This sliver of a store lies across from the regional Chinese wonderland that is the New World Mall food court and predates New York City's pizza Napoletana craze. Hand over $2.25, grab a perch at the counter and dig into a taste of days gone by. I take mine with garlic powder and crushed red pepper, and highly advise you to follow suit.

As for white slices, Dani's House of Pizza (81-28 Lefferts Blvd., Kew Gardens) specializes in one of the best sans tomato sauce pies everpesto pizza ($3 a slice). The way the basil infused oil fries patches of the crust is truly magnificent. I like to add extra grated cheese and hot pepper while the green and white slice is still hot.
