Welcome to our photo series Eater Scenes, where Eater photographer Daniel Krieger visits some of the city's great restaurants to capture them at a certain, and very specific, point in the day. Today, Rubirosa.

The critics ignored Rubirosa when it opened three years ago, and the restaurant has never been a food blog darling. But it is absolutely one of Downtown Manhattan's best pizzerias. Proprietor AJ Pappalardo imported the pizza recipe from his dad's famed Staten Island pizzeria, Joe & Pat's. The rest of the menu of Italian American fare is prepared by chef Al Di Meglio and his team. It's the rare pizzeria where the non-pizza dishes are just as good as the pies.
