Breast Cancer Benefit at Mable's; America's Classics Award

WILLIAMSBURG — On Thursday, March 6, Mable's Smokehouse will host its first annual "BBQ for Betty," a breast cancer benefit named for owner Jeff Lutonsky's mother, Bet, who passed away in 2007 after a two decade-long battle with breast cancer. All the proceeds from that day and evening will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. [EaterWire]

AWARDS SEASONThe James Beard Foundation announced the five winners of this year's America's Classics Award. The list includes Olneyville New York System in Rhode Island, Nick's Italian Cafe in Oregon, New Orleans institution Hansen's Sno Bliz, Sokolowski's University Inn in Cleveland, and Texas steakhouse Perini Ranch Steakhouse. UPPER WEST SIDEToday, 50-year-old neighborhood favorite Sal and Carmine's was seized by the state because of nonpayment of taxes.
