Delaney, Tarlow, Carmichael Named JBFA Semifinalists

Today, the James Beard Foundation announced the semifinalists for this year's Restaurant and Chef Awards. This is the "long list," and the finalists will be named on March 18. Of note: BrisketTown's Daniel Delaney is a semifinalist in the Rising Star Chef category, Ma Peche's Paul Carmichael gets a nomination for Best Chef NYC, Lafayette's Jennifer Yee is one of the Outstanding Pastry Chef candidates, and Andrew Tarlow is on the long list for Outstanding Restaurateur. Best New Restaurant: Betony, The Elm, Estela, Uncle Boons.
Outstanding Chef: Michael Anthony (Gramercy Tavern), Gabrielle Hamilton (Prune), Andrew Carmellini (Locanda Verde, specifically).
Outstanding Pastry Chef: Dominique Ansel, Christina Tosi, Jennifer Yee (Lafayette).
Outstanding Restaurant: Hearth, Pearl Oyster Bar, wd~50.
Outstanding Bar Program: The Dead Rabbit, Maison Premiere, The Nomad.
Rising Star Chef: Daniel Delaney (BrisketTown), Malcolm Livingston II (wd~50), Eli Sussman (Mile End), Michael Toscano (Perla).

Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional: Garrett Oliver (Brooklyn Brewery), David Wondrich ("spirits educator").
Outstanding Wine Program: Bar Boulud, Momofuku Ssam Bar, Rouge Tomate.
Outstanding Service: Blue Hill.
Outstanding Restaurateur: Andrew Tarlow, Phil Suarez.
Best Chef NYC: Jonathan Benno (Lincoln Ristorante), Fredrik Berselius (Aska), April Bloomfield (The Spotted Pig), Paul Carmichael (Má Pêche) Amanda Cohen (Dirt Candy), Dan Kluger (ABC Kitchen), Mark Ladner (Del Posto), Paul Liebrandt (The Elm), Anita Lo (Annisa), Carlo Mirarchi (Roberta's), Seamus Mullen (Tertulia), Joe Ng (RedFarm), Alex Raij and Eder Montero (Txikito), César Ramirez (Brooklyn Fare), Masato Shimizu (15 East), Justin Smillie (Il Buco Alimentari), Alex Stupak (Empellón Cocina), Rich Torrisi and Mario Carbone (Carbone), Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto), Michael White (Marea).
