Drew Nieporent is planning a new French restaurant in the old Corton space called Bâtard. His chef/partner is Markus Glocker, formerly of Gordon Ramsay at The London, and Daniel's maitre d' John Winterman is also a partner (he's leaving Boulud's restaurant after this week). Nieporent tells Flo Fab: "I have a long history with this space, going back 29 years...And there is a lot of good will here, so I wasn't ready to give it up." Bâtard, is a reference to Burgundy's Montrachet wines. So, with that name, Nieporent is essentially creating a thematic link back to his very first restaurant in this space, the legendary Montrachet.
Bâtard is slated for a spring opening. Nieporent notes: "It will be more user-friendly than Corton."
