Next Friday, Mile End and Fleisher's will team up with Pop-Up Shabbat to host the first official event at Mile End's newly rebuilt commissary kitchen in Red Hook. The "Night Among the Tsars" meal from the roaming "Jewishly-sourced" supper club, will be an "Eastern Bloc meets Russian Tea Room" feast. For $95 per person, it includes dishes like salmon coulibiac, potato dill challah with horseradish vodka butter, and a blini flight.
After Mile End's commissary space was devastated by Hurricane Sandy, Noah Bermanoff partnered with Josh Applestone of Fleisher's to get it back up and running as a meat processing facility. They set aside an events space with plans to host "out-of-town chefs and curated food events," and now it's good to go, outfitted with a giant working fireplace and views of the water. The meal on February 21 will be the first in a series of Pop-Up Shabbat dinners in the space, and tickets are available online.
