The space that houses Union Square Cafe has now officially gone on the market. This should be a surprise to no one, since, Danny Meyer announced back in June that his seminal restaurant would close by the end of 2015, due to a massive rent hike. Still, it's another major nail in the coffin. According the the listing, it's eligible for possession in March — though it's unclear whether that will impact the date on which the restaurant closes for good. The landlord is also offering the option to combine the space with the one that now houses Blue Water Grill, which seems to confirm that the restaurant will also be forced to close by a rent hike (at last report, BR Guest was still negotiating with the landlord).
Both Union Square Cafe and Blue Water Grill are currently on the hunt for new spaces to call home, but so far neither has any news to report.
