Details are scarce, but one employee at sister restaurant Back Forty West says the Avenue B original is closing.

Rumor has been circulating recently that the original Back Forty, chef Peter Hoffman's farm-to-table restaurant in Alphabet City, is set to close. According to one tipster, last night was the last night in service for the seven-year-old neighborhood staple, though a manager reached by phone at the restaurant last night wouldn't confirm. This morning, however, an employee at Back Forty West, the sister restaurant in Soho, told Eater that the original is indeed closing, but couldn't give an exact date. Eater has reached out to Hoffman for more information, and is waiting on a response. In the meantime, it may take until Tuesday until anything is known for certain — Back Forty is always closed on Mondays.

Meanwhile, Back Forty West, which Hoffman opened three years ago in the space that once housed his pioneering, Greenmarket-focused restaurant Savoy, appears to be safe. Stay tuned.
