Mission Chinese Food Is Training Staff Right Now and Will Open by Tuesday

Expect a mix of old and new dishes on the menu.

Ben Jay

With brown paper still covering the glass door, and the grandma curtains circa 1973 drawn, Mission Chinese Food was busily training its staff last night. One staffer on site promised that the restaurant will open by Tuesday with a menu that's a mix of old classics (that means kung pao pastrami will live on) and some new dishes, which may take the form of a fleur-de-dumplingsa giant puffed breadshaved ice, or some other wild concoction pulled from Danny Bowien's brain. As for that pizza oven, small wood logs were burning, but pizza like David Chang's mapo tofu pie may or may not make it onto the final menu. That oven definitely will get some good use, however, turning out some roasted fish dishes. And for all of those hoping to spend Christmas Day downing Chinese food: Yes, the restaurant will be open with limited hours.
