Health Department Shuts Down Greenwich Village Old-Timer Caffe Reggio

The DOH strikes again, this time against a coffee shop icon.

Another piece of news from the wonderful world of the New York City Department of Health this afternoon: Caffe Reggio, the historic Italian cafe that has been serving espresso in Greenwich Village since 1927, just got shut down by the DOH. Unlike Joe's Shanghai, the inspection report isn't available online yet, so there's no telling what the violations are for. But here's hoping that the cafe, which has served as everything from a beat poet hang to a backdrop in the Godfather gets back on its feet soon.
