Only a week or so after a visit from Con Ed, the permanent location of Joshua and Heidi Smookler's smash hit Mu Ramen is opening tonight at 5:30 p.m. This is a very triumphant return for the former pop-up, which hasn't served the public since being overwhelmed by demand after Pete Wells named Smookler's soup the best ramen in the city.
The menu will change daily, says Joshua, but an early menu draft promised several types of ramen, plus bar food like okonomiyaki and various steamed buns. A "tonkotsu 2.0," made with 120 pounds of pork boiled for 16 hours will surely grace the menu, and foie gras-stuffed wings are also a sure bet. Plus, the chef (who happens to be a vet of Per Se) received a massive shipment of truffles, but no word yet on how they will be used. In the meantime, take a look around:
