Lobster Joint Is Closing Up Shop to Make Way for the Wrecking Ball Coming to East Houston

The shutter is the latest in a string leading up to a major development.

Lobster Joint is the latest restaurant to fall victim to Ben "Sledgehammer" Shaoul who plans to develop almost an entire block of East Houston. The restaurant has had a tough few months. It was damaged by a water main break on East Houston and only reopened in July.

On the block, Bereket was the first domino to fall back in July, Philly's Cheese Steak followed, and AAA Ichiban was the most recent to topple, just two weeks ago. Ray's Pizza, Empanada Mama, and other will follow sometime soon, leaving only Katz's and its gallery space next door. Lobster Joint's last day of service will be Sunday, November 16. There will be an all day happy hour and a party to mark the occasion. The team released a statement saying:

It has been our great pleasure to serve this dynamic neighborhood for the past two years. We would like to thank our loyal patrons, employees, and vendors for embracing Lobster Joint since our opening in 2012. Unfortunately, due to the continuing growth and development in the neighborhood, we must vacate our current address, despite our great success on Houston Street.

The Greenpoint location is still open.
