Less than three months after opening in the old Donatella space, Heartwood — the pizzeria from Gramercy Tavern alum Nick Mautone, ex-Daniel baker Mark Fiorentino and Bradford Thompson from Miss Lily's — has mysteriously closed. A waiter at neighboring restaurant confirmed the rumor saying the place has been dark for several days already and its OpenTable account has been deleted. Heartwood was tweeting as recently as October 20, albeit about a free pizza deal.
The restaurant was getting some decent buzz despite serving out-there pizzas like the "When Peter Luger Goes Out for Pizza" (braised shortrib, creamed spinach, horseradish). and the shutter was pretty abrupt, so it's unclear precisely what's going on. There's no update on the restaurant's voicemail, website, or social media accounts. Eater has reached out to the team. Stay tuned.
