A French Bar Meets an Italian Country Home at Jody Williams and Rita Sodi's Via Carota

Fried rabbit, crispy artichokes, and fresh fruit are on the menu at the new restaurant from this West Village power couple.

Ruling queens of the West Village restaurant scene, Jody Williams and Rita Sodi quietly opened their first joint project, Via Carota last week. The restaurant is just a few doors down from Buvette, but much bigger than Williams' tightly packed little wine bar. Here there's plenty of seating, between the rows of small tabletops and the long marble bar. The design mixes a French bar with an Italian country home, complete with a large table for wine dinners, a blossoming citrus tree, and little piles of persimmons and bundles of garlic just sitting out.

The duo still hasn't released a full menu, but early diners are already posting on social media about a vegetable stuffed lasagna, fried rabbit, and crispy Roman-style artichokes. Plus there's what amounts to a bun-less burger, and right now a very simple pasta dish with white truffles.
