La Grenouille Legend Charles Masson Opens Chevalier in Midtown in February

Following his rocky split from his family institution, the maitre d' extraordinaire is almost ready to open his "younger, friskier" French restaurant with chef Shea Gallante

Since leaving his family's restaurant, La Grenouille, amid brotherly conflict, Charles Masson has been hard at work on a new French restaurant in the Baccarat Hotel with Ciano alum Shea Gallante. Now, six months later, the legendary maitre d' has a name and an opening date for his Midtown restaurant: It will be called Chevalier, and it's slated to open in February.

There's not much more detail than that at the moment, but expect a menu of updated French classics in a luxe space (there's a lot of crystal involved). Early on, Masson promised that this would be "a younger, friskier little sister to La Grenouille."
