Via Carota, the laid back Italian place coming from Buvette's Jody Williams and I Sodi's Rita Sodi, is getting close to opening — or at least it looks that way. The pair's been spotted interviewing staff and hosting a party for 100 friends and staff members at the new restaurant. Grub Street tagged along with a video crew while the chefs shopped the Greenmarket and lit the stoves for the first time before the party. They cooked up several dishes including a salt-baked branzino, roasted fennel, spaghetti aglio e olio and a grilled quail with pancetta and grapes. All of which would seem perfectly suited to a casual Italian menu that the restaurant is expected to reveal soon. Despite being somewhat overwhelmed because every single one of the invited guests showed up, Williams determines that "this is a car that's going to go far, we can drive this."
