Kappo Masa Will Debut This Friday with Sashimi on Blocks of Ice, Chin Chin to Close on Friday

A sushi restaurant for those dropping dollar, dollar bills (on art) y'all.

Masa Takayama; Gagosian Gallery

Kappo Masa, sushi master Masa Takayama's restaurant project with primo gallerino Larry Gagosian, is opening this Friday, reports Flo Fab. The restaurant is located under Gagosian's flagship gallery, and as promised, the fare here will be more affordable than at Takayama's eponymous sushi palace Masa. Expect a long and seasonal menu of sushi, sashimi, and fish cooked using a variety of Japanese traditions. Because this is Gagosian, and Madison Avenue, there's still some decadence going on. Plates, designed by Takayama, are "often strewn with caviar or white truffles," and sashimi comes on frozen blocks of glass. For lunch, there will be bamboo bento boxes. Check back soon for more details, menus, and photos.

In other tidbits from Flo Fab land, Dough's first Manhattan shop will open on October 15 and the bakery is now offering free donuts from 6 to 8 (it's unclear if that's a.m. or p.m.) until it opens. Donuts will also be free all day on the 15th.

Finally, legendary Chinese restaurant Chin Chin will close its doors this Friday after dinner. Owner Jimmy Chin is hoping to relocate downtown sometime soon.
