The St. Louis-style pizza specialist really is opening an outpost on Clinton Street, and taking over not one but two restaurant spaces in the process.

This morning comes confirmation that Speedy Romeo, the Clinton Hill hit known for its St. Louis-style pizza, is indeed expanding to the Lower East Side. Bowery Boogie learns that the restaurant is not only moving into the former home of Cube Sushi on Clinton Street, it's also taking over the space currently occupied by Fatta Cuckoo, the tiny American restaurant next door.

Fatta Cuckoo cut down its hours to just weekends at the beginning of October, with owner Leah Tinari promising that renovations and a "new partnership" were underway. Now it turns out that she and her husband were really just handing over the space to the Speedy Romeo team, which plans to combine it with the sushi place next door and open a restaurant very similar to the original in Brooklyn. There will be a wood-fired oven and grill, and a menu of pizzas and grilled entrees like steak and a burger. Tinari will still be invested in the space, and will even have some celebrity company: apparently, Adrian Grenier, star of Entourage, is also a partner.
