Although it was soft open most of last week, serving a limited menu to a limited number of diners, Cosme — the Mexican restaurant to beat all New York City Mexican restaurants — officially and completely opens tonight. No matter that reservations are supposedly already booked until 2015, the restaurant also takes walk-ins, and there's a lounge area up front to get drinks and snacks like guacamole.
The menu from chef Enrique Olvera is more casual than the one he serves at Pujol, his groundbreaking Mexico City restaurant, but like that one it's not strictly Mexican. Instead, expect dishes like a mussel tostada, burrata with "weeds," and smoked sepia with salsa. That's not to say, of course, that there won't be some very traditional ingredients and techniques involved — Most notably the freshly-made, single-origin, stone-warmed corn tortillas. The menu has changed and expanded somewhat since last week's early version, but as of this writing that final version isn't available. Do stay tuned for that, and in the meantime continue to send any thoughts, opinions, and intel our way
