The Pavilion's first season in Union Square may be its only one, according to a blog post by the group NYC Park Advocates. The restaurant, which opened this May after years of controversy, has apparently had a tough time attracting diners and maintaining staff, despite what would seem to be a prime location. Meanwhile, park advocates have continued to fight against the restaurant, which they say takes up neighborhood space.
The restaurant has a license to stay open until October 31, but now it's unclear if it will return next summer. Apparently officials have reached a deal that would required the restaurant to move out of the Pavilion, but are currently working out a way to bring the restaurant back in the northern part of the park, outside of the Pavilion itself.
