Odessa Cafe Is Torn Down to the Bones as Yet Another New Tenant Eyes the Space

Will the latest suitor take the space?

The remains of Odessa Cafe and Bar, which shuttered last year, have slowly been carted away over the last few weeks, while an application with the SLA indicates that there is a new tenant interested in taking the space. EV Grieve reports that a Robert C. Payne is seeking a "corporate change" for the license granted to 117 Avenue A.

Odessa was a neighborhood staple for 33 years, before shuttering in August 2013 because of a massive rent increase. There have reportedly been several interested parties eying the space but no takers thus far. The fact that demolition has begun might indicate that a deal is in place.
