The future of Ushiwakamaru, chef Hideo Kuribara's excellent, moderately priced sushi restaurant on Houston Street (and current member of the Eater 38), looks uncertain. Rumors that the restaurant faces a major rent hike have recently surfaced, and today an employee tells Eater that it will most likely close by the end of the year. The owners are currently looking for a new space to move to, but they haven't found anything yet. The employee could not confirm the rumors of a rent hike, but noted that the impending closure has to do with the building. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
