Bowie and Bubbles at Terroir; Pizza Pop-Up at Lo Duca

MURRAY HILL — Terroir Murray Hill is hosting a "Bowie and Bubbles" party in honor of David Bowie's 67th birthday, based on the belief that "Bowie is the Champagne of pop music." There will be specials on Champagne by the glass, plus Bowie trivia, Bowie music, and a Bowie costume contest. Face paint will be available at the bar. [EaterWire]

DITMAS — John Wozniak, who has spent time working in the Paulie Gee's kitchen, is holding a one-day pizza pop-up at Lo Duca Pizzeria on Newkirk Plaza. On January 10, from early afternoon through dinner, he'll be serving thick-crust, focaccia-style pies that look something like this. [EaterWire]

WILLIAMSBURG — Carmine's Pizzeria on Graham Avenue is closed for renovations for the month of January. A note on the restaurant's Facebook page reassures customers that all calls will be forwarded to Carmine's II, which will be open seven days a week "in order to accommodate our loyal customers." COLDPOCALYPSE — Restaurants across the Midwest are temporarily closing down in the face of the so-called "polar vortex." Others in Minneapolis and Chicago are offering deals and specials to try to convince customers to brave the -50 windchill. Stay tuned, that same polar vortex, somewhat tamed, hits NYC tonight.
