Big Gay Ice Cream Expands; Waxman & Boulud Cook Chili

NOMAD — Christina Turley of Turley Wines is hosting a tasting of her winery's newest offerings at the Breslin on Friday, January 31. The tasting will be paired with a three-course, $90 lunch from April Bloomfield, which includes roasted carrot salad with avocado, braised lamb shoulder, and duck fat fried potatoes. EXPANSIONS — The long awaited Los Angeles outpost of the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop has finally found a location to settle down in. The new spot in Downtown LA should open some time this year, and owners Doug Quint and Bryan Petroff hope to follow it with more locations and a year-round truck operation. [~ELA~]

WEST VILLAGE — Former Daniel sommelier Jean-Luc Le Du will host a chili-making competition between Jonathan Waxman and Daniel Boulud at Le Du's Wines on Saturday, February 1. The competition runs from 4 to 7 p.m. and also includes tastings of two dozen Chateauneuf du Pape and various whiskeys and bourbons. [EaterWire]
