Nelson Blue, one of the long-shuttered victims of Hurricane Sandy, reopened on New Year's Eve. The South Street Seaport restaurant has been restored to exactly the way it looked before it was inundated by eight feet of water 14 months ago. On top of all the fundamental fixes, that restoration also involved sending all of the hand-carved pieces of the wood interior back to where they were made in Italy for repairs.

For now the restaurant is only open for bar service, serving just drinks and snacks. But owner Paul Morgan tells DNAinfo he hopes to be totally back up and running, serving the full menu of New Zealand cuisine, within a week.
