Fans of Soho dive bar Milady's took to Twitter this afternoon to share their favorite memories of the tavern, which has been in business for over 50 years. It will close for good after service tomorrow night. Here are remembrances of the bar and reactions to the news from writers, chefs, and longtime patrons. Feel free to add your own thoughts in the comments:
Chef Andrew Carmellini:
Miladay's is closing and we are all going to hell
— Andrew Carmellini (@andrecarmellini) January 11, 2014
Author Sloane Crosley:
RIP Milady's. If I could reminisce with accuracy about a single experience within your walls, this tweet would be moot.
— Sloane Crosley (@askanyone) January 11, 2014
Blogger Chris Schonberger:
Damn, Milady's is facing the grim reaper too? Was always a good escape from shopping-mall Soho for a chicken quesadilla & pint of Guinness.
— Chris Schonberger (@cschonberger) January 11, 2014
Chef Alex Raij:
heartbreaking milady's was a rare vestige of authenticity in soho I always felt I was back in MN there http://t.co/rJAPuO8KXX

Saveur's Helen Rosner:
When I first moved to NY I used to go to Milady's alone and drink a beer & read a book & pretend to belong.
— Helen Rosner (@hels) January 11, 2014
Foursquare's Harry Heymann:
A cpl of yrs ago at Milady's, I had to buy a round of shots after losing a bet to @espiers when Duke beat UNC on that crazy Austin Rivers 3.

The New Yorker's Sasha Frere-Jones:
So we just lost Milday's, Gray's Papaya and Cooper Union. When does the municipal name change to "Bank of America presents New York"?
— Sasha Frere-Jones (@sfj) January 11, 2014
Curbed's Sarah Cox:
So Milady's is not only closing, but is going to be way too crowded with nostalgia for the next two nights.
— Sarah F Cox (@xoxoCox) January 11, 2014
Author David Gilbert:
Sad that Milady's is gone. It was never the destination yet always seemed to end up being the journey's end.
— David Gilbert (@Davegilbs) January 11, 2014
Eater's Scott Solish:
Hopefully someone has gotten the lease for Milady's and will open a classic New York dive bar with $30 cocktails and 365 day aged rib eyes
— DBTH (@DBTH) January 11, 2014
Outgoing New York Times Magazine editor Hugo Lindgren:
One of the worst bathrooms in New York but who doesn't love Milady's? http://t.co/fATm5TB8ol pic.twitter.com/7XVzwBi1tb
— HugoLindgren (@HugoLindgren) January 11, 2014
And more reactions:
In his first two weeks as mayor, De Blasio has lost both Gray's Papaya and Milady's. h/t @TadAllagash

can't we do something to save milady's?
— WOKIE TOKIE (@MR_SPRINKLEZ) January 11, 2014
Milady's closing is horrible news. One of the best bars in NYC.
— Paul Barnes (@LennyIce) January 11, 2014
Milady's is closing. Literally the best place in SoHo. How batshit crazy would it be to roadtrip up there tomorrow night to pay my respects?
— schlappattack (@schlappattack) January 11, 2014
milady's is closing too? are you fucking kidding me
— Ben Detrick (@bdetrick) January 11, 2014
