1) Vendy Awards
When: Today, 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Industry City
What: The ninth annual Vendy Awards takes place this afternoon in Brooklyn's Industry City. The best of New York's many street food vendors will compete to be named the top sidewalk vendor. Over 20 street carts and trucks, including Luke's Lobster and the Bronx's The Chipper Truck, will be serving all-you-can-eat food samples and non-alcoholic drinks. The event serves as a fundraiser for the Street Vendor Project, a membership-based non-profit organization that stands up for vendors' rights.
2) Brooklyn Wort
When: Sunday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: The Bell House
What: Tomorrow afternoon, over 30 homebrewers will take over the Bell House for its seventh annual homebrew competition. Guests will sample all 30 beers, talk to brewers, and vote for their favorite, all while eating a full plate of food from Zito's Sandwich Shoppe. Tickets to the event are $40.
3) Pig Island
When: Today, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Waterfront by Erie Basin Park
What: The fourth annual Pig Island takes place today on Red Hook's waterfront. Over 25 chefs from restaurants all over the five boroughs, including Fletcher's BBQ, Ducks Eatery, JoeDoe, and Parish Hall, will serve dishes made with local NY state pigs. There will also be local beer and wine, cooking demos, and live music all day. A portion of the proceeds from the event will benefit Value Added Farm.
4) Total Crown Heights Immersion
When: Today, 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Various Locations
What: This afternoon, Brooklyn Based and Brooklyn Brewery are taking to the streets again with theTotal Crown Heights Immersion. Participants in the pub crawl will need to pick up one the 500 free immersion cards at either Franklin Park or Nostrand Avenue Pub in order to gain access to complimentary beer at places like Crown Inn and Catfish. The cards also get you discounts on food, coffee, and clothing at various local vendors.
5) Wong Turns Two
When: Sunday, all day
Where: Wong
What: Tomorrow, Wong turns two, and to celebrate their anniversary, they're offering special discounts on some of their menu items. There will be $1 dumplings, $5 beers, $7 wines, and $9 cocktails. There will be five different dumplings available, from lobster and corn to the pork and chive, and each will be paired with a different dipping sauce.
Also of Note: Smorgasburg is open for business this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with vendors like Pizza Moto, Milk Truck, and Blue Marble Ice Cream. The Hester Street Fair is on for this weekend as well. The New York City Honey festival is also taking place this weekend, with honey-based food and beverages and other bee-related goodies.
