What do you do when you have a giant bakery facility in your basement that is hardly used? How about turn it into Williamsburg's hippest new live music space and dance club? That's what the owners of Monk restaurant decided to do, handing the bakery over to former Polyphonic Spree musician Louis Schwadron and his partner Dan Wender to run Breadbox.
Schwadron and Wender plan on making minimal decor changes to the space so that their patrons can get that authentic bakery experience while simultaneously offering super cool performances by local bands and DJs on Tuesday, Friday and Saturday nights. Do they think it will work? Of course, because as Wender explains, "people don't want to go to a bar that's a bar. They want to go to a bar that's a bakery." Maybe this is why Monk has been closed all of August and their OpenTable page is down. The good times start tomorrow night.
