The latest Community Board 2 agenda lists a new liquor license application from the Starr Restaurant Group at 222 Bowery, which is the space directly next to Noho hot spot Pearl & Ash. A rep for mega-restaurateur Stephen Starr tells Eater that he is looking at the space for a potential new restaurant with Joe Carroll, of Fette Sau and St. Anselm. As you may recall, the two restaurateurs opened a location of Fette Sau in Philly not too long ago.
No word yet on what the theme of this new place will be, but Starr's camp says that they are not planning a barbecue restaurant on the Bowery. Of course, nothing is set in stone just yet. Starr and his team will present their plan before the CB 2 on October 8, and in an unusual twist, a group doing business under the name Sagardi USA is also applying for a license at 222 Bowery. Starr's team says that the two groups are not working together. The space currently houses Green Depot.
In other CB 2 news, the agenda also lists a liquor license application in the old Betel space on Grove Street from an "entity to be formed by Jody Williams." Presumably, this is the same chef/restaurateur that operates Buvette down the block. An employee at Ms. Williams's restaurant tells Eater that this is "pure speculation" at this point, and that the chef has not announced any future plans yet. Ms. Williams just opened a location of her French restaurant in Paris.
