Il Cantuccio Tuscan Bakery Shutters in the Village

Il Cantuccio, the well-loved Tuscan bakery in Greenwich Village, has shuttered. Owners Simone Bertini, Lorenzo Palombo, and Camilla Bottari brought the cafe to the US from Italy, opening up shop three years ago despite a fire that destroyed the interior halfway through renovations. The shop specialized in cantucci, a softer version of biscotti, but also served other pastries, bread and sandwiches. It appears that the owners fell behind on rent, and a landlord's demand note was posted in the window yesterday.
