Kenny Callaghan is leaving Blue Smoke at the end of October. The chef opened the restaurant 12 years ago, and before that he worked at Union Square Cafe for eight years. A press release about his departure notes that he's leaving "to pursue an array of new culinary opportunities." In addition to overseeing both locations of Blue Smoke and its airport satellite restaurant, Callaghan also co-founded the Big Apple Barbecue Block Party with Danny Meyer. Kenny was a partner in Blue Smoke as well as its chef.
Union Square Hospitality Group has not announced his replacement, but a statement about this staff shuffle notes: "The next chapter of the Blue Smoke story will both honor the work Kenny has done and continue to advance the exciting culinary evolution of Blue Smoke."
