Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) Crabapalooza
When: Today, 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Where: Back Forty
What: The East Village location of Back Forty is hosting a Chesapeake-style crab boil this afternoon. $45 will get you a mountain of spiced crabs along with some sides, including fresh cornbread, boiled potatoes, corn on the cob, and string beans, and some summer fruit cobblers for dessert. There will also be pitchers of beer available for purchase. For those headed out to the beach this weekend, the Back Forty team will also be hosting a crab boil out at Low Tide Bar on the Rockaway Beach Boardwalk this afternoon.
2) Bacon & Beer Tasting
When: Today, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Ding Dong Lounge
What: Joios, a tasting community, is teaming up with Baconery this evening to host an all-you-can-eat bacon and beer night. Expect bacon dipped in chocolate, peanut butter and bacon sandwiches, bacon maple blondies, and more. Tickets are $50.
3) Bedford and Bowery Bazaar
When: Today, 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Where: Hester Street Fair
What: This afternoon, the first annual Bedford + Bowery Bazaar kicks off on the Lower East Side. Several North Brooklyn restaurants, bars, and artists will be in attendance with some debuting new menu items and flavors. P&H Soda Co. will be serving up PB&J ice cream atop Concord grape soda, the guys from Tørst will have a jalapeño beer and will be previewing a new sandwich, and Ducks Eatery will be offering its signature bayou-Asian barbecue. And starting at 6:30 p.m., Brooklyn Brewery will be providing free beer.
4) Five Wines for $5
When: Today, 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Del Posto
What: This afternoon is the last opportunity for you to sample five Italian wines for five bucks at Del Posto this year. The restaurant's wine director Jeff Porter has been conducting these "community wine tastings" all summer long, so if you haven't participated yet, make sure to wrap up summer right. As always, the event is first come, first serve.
5) Brazilian Day
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: W 46th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues
What: In honor of Brazil's Independence Day, there will be a celebration of all things Brazilian tomorrow. The 25 blocks surrounding the area known as "Little Brazil" will be filled with vendors selling authentic Brazilian food, playing Brazilian music, and more. The event is free, but bring cash for the food samples.
Also of Note: Smorgasburg is open for business this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with vendors like Pizza Moto, Milk Truck, Dough, and Takumi Taco. The Hester Street Fair is on for this weekend as well, with extended hours for the final Hester Street Night Market of the season. Looking to try a new restaurant this weekend?
