Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) Brooklyn Beer & Wine Fest
When: Sunday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: The Lab
What: Tap + Cork, the people behind Bed-Vyne Wine and Bed-Vyne Brew, are hosting the first annual Brooklyn Beer and Wine Festival. The day-long festival will feature a selection of craft beers, wines from regional wineries, and local artisan spirits. Food, including gourmet cheeses and Jamaican jerk barbecue, will be provided by local vendors. Check out the full festival lineup here. A limited number of tickets will be available at the gate for $20.
2) Hog Days of Summer
When: Today, 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Where: Arrogant Swine
What: This afternoon, Arrogant Swine and John Brown Smokehouse are hosting the second in a series of hog roasts celebrating traditional North Carolina barbecue and heritage pig farming. A whole hog from Tamarack Hollow Farm will be slow-smoked and served with the proper garnishes and sides. There will also be all-you-can-drink craft beer from Founders Brewery and a live bluegrass band. Tickets are $41, or $51 for VIP access. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Just Food NYC.
3) $1 Oyster Extravaganza
When: Today, 2 p.m.
Where: BOE Tasting Room
What: Williamsburg winery Brooklyn Oenology is hosting yet another oyster eating extravaganza this afternoon. There will be all-you-can-eat $1 Blue Point oysters topped with house-made mignonette sauce and specially selected wines, whiskeys, and locally made vodka to pair them with. The deal is available starting at 2 p.m. and will last until all there are no more oysters.
4) MOFAD at Summer Streets
When: Today, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Foley Square
What: The Museum of Food and Drink's traveling cereal exhibit entitled BOOM! The Puffing Gun and the Rise of Breakfast Cereal will debut today at the last session of the city's Summer Streets celebration. The exhibit will explain the science behind cereal production and the rise of the cereal industry. And yes, MOFAD's crazy puffing gun will be on display all day.
5) Tomato Fest 2013
When: Sunday, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: The Green Table at Chelsea Market
What: Food Systems NYC is hosting their annual celebration of the tomato tomorrow evening. There will be tomato-laced cocktails and tomato-based treats from places like The Green Table, Runner and Stone, Parish Hall, and Suenos NYC. Tickets are $55.
Also of Note: Smorgasburg is open for business this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with vendors like Pizza Moto, Blue Marble Ice Cream, and Takumi Taco. The Hester Street Fair is on for this weekend as well, with extended hours for the Hester Street Night Market. Looking to try a new restaurant this weekend?
