Now that chef Paul Liebrandt has left Corton, restaurateur Drew Nieporent is considering his options for the space. Gael Greene reports that Nieporent is "finalizing negotiations with a new chef." He tells Ms. Gael: "I want to get back to delicious food...I'm not going to play around with prima donnas. I don't want reinvention." That means that New York's number one free agent, Laurent Gras, is probably out of the question.
Greene hints that Paul Bartolotta, who has restaurants in Las Vegas and Milwaukee, might be a possible candidate. The chef has been spotted looking at spaces around the city recently, and he has a great reputation in the industry. Nieporent won't comment on Bartolotta other than to say that the idea of working with him is "interesting."
