Continuing a tradition that he started in Portland, chef/restaurateur Andy Ricker invited a group of monks over to his new bar, Whiskey Soda Lounge Ny, for a blessing. T Magazine has a few photos of the monks from Long Island's Vajiradhammapadip Temple performing the ritual in the space.
In addition to cocktails, the new bar will serve Ricker's famous fish sauce wings, plus things like stir-fried clams, salads, and pork riblets. Ricker is also apparently working on a dish made with "live, young eels." The space will feature "off-kilter antiques" retrieved from a market in Bankgok, and a wall dedicated to Muay Thai ephemera. Ricker explains: "I hope when you walk in...you're transferred for a minute or two, out of New York, out of Brooklyn, and definitely out of the Columbia Street Waterfront District." Whiskey Soda Lounge Ny is slated to open in the middle of August.
