The Bar Formerly Known as Painkiller Is Closing Tonight

[Here's one last look at the sweet tiki prince of the Lower East Side. Daniel Krieger took these photos back in 2010, when the bar was know as Painkiller.]

Tonight is your last chance to enjoy the tropical drinks and amazing air conditioning of Richie Boccato's Lower East Side tiki bar, PKNY. Last month, Boccato told the Times: "The landlord has chosen not to renew...so that's the reason we're to be abandoning ship." The PKNY crew will host a party for friends and family tonight, but they're opening up the doors to anyone that wants to stop by starting at 10:30 p.m. The bar will be serving a new list of drinks made with Sailor Jerry Rum, and the crew from the Meat Hook will be selling food, too. Boccato and his team hope to open another tiki bar called Asphalt Jungle, although no word yet on where or when.
