Tenpenny veteran Chris Cipollone is planning a new restaurant called Piora in the Hudson Street space that formerly housed The Goodwin. Cipollone is opening this new project with restaurateur Simon Kim, formerly of The Mark. Piora will serve American food with Italian, French, and Korean influences. A rep sends word that the restaurant is slated to open next week.
Cipollone was cooking some really great food at Tenpenny when it first opened. The menu included a porchetta ravioli that was absolutely one of the best pasta dishes in New York at the time. Cipollone parted ways with the restaurant shortly after GM/partner Jeffrey Tascarella left to run the show at The Nomad. As Sifton noted in his review, Tenpenny was a good restaurant in a bad space. The dining room at Piora is being designed by Stephanie Goto, who also worked on Aldea and Corton, so hopefully Cipollone and Kim won't have that same problem.
