New Chef at Pounds & Ounces; Bastille Day at Millesime

CHELSEA — Pounds & Ounces just hired Jeff Kreisel to be the restaurant's new executive chef. He comes to them by way of a job as executive chef at Hotel Chantelle, and as chef de cuisine at Porter House before that. His new menu features a few big steaks, a lot of local, seasonal ingredients, and a handful of gluten free options. [EaterWire]

SOHO — Back Forty West is hosting a sockeye salmon dinner on Monday, July 8. For $75, dinner includes four courses featuring the fish, plus dessert and wine. Paul Greenberg, the author of Four Fish will also be there to speak about the proposed Pebble Bay Mine and its effect on the wild salmon population of Bristol Bay. The dinner starts at 6:30 p.m., and tickets can be purchased online. [EaterWire]

MIDTOWN — In the days leading up to Bastille Day, on July 14, Millesime will serve a family-style "Bastille Week" menu of traditional French dishes like house made pates and frog legs Provencale. The prix fixe dinner is $45 per person, and will be served from July 9 to July 13. Then on Bastille Day itself, the restaurant's usual bottomless punch brunch will feature an independence day special of duck confit with fresh cassoulet and poached egg. [EaterWire]
