Word on the street is that Pete Wells is gearing up to review Daniel Boulud's fine dining flagship, Daniel. Eater sources whisper that the critic dined at the four-star restaurant several times over the last few weeks, and that his review might even drop next Tuesday. The move makes sense considering that Daniel just got a new pastry chef, Ghaya Oliveira, and the restaurant is also celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.
Up until now, Wells has only reviewed one four-star restaurant: Le Bernardin. He wrote a blog post about Eleven Madison Park once, but that doesn't really count. Daniel was last reviewed by the Times back in 2009, right after the revamp of the dining room. Bruni gave it four sparklers, and odds are that Wells will do the same. But you never know — maybe Pete will surprise us with his star rating, as he's been know to do from time to time.
