A lot of Manhattanites will be riding the L-Train this weekend, because Paul Liebrandt's hotly anticipated new Williamsburg restaurant The Elm is slated to open on Friday night. This is the chef's casual follow-up to Corton in the subterranean space of the King & Grove hotel. In a profile in Du Jour magazine, the chef talks a bit about how he got connected with the hotel: "I was approached about a year ago by [King & Grove owner] Ed Scheetz to do this project, and I thought that it was a very interesting space in a very interesting location...I thought it would be a good move." The article also notes that the chef is "working on a yet-to-be-named Manhattan project with Scheetz." King & Grove has another hotel near Madison Square Park, and the group previously announced plans to run the Hotel Chelsea for the Chetrit Group. Will Liebrandt open a restaurant in one of those hotels? Only time will tell.
