Pig 'N' Whistle, The Bar Room, and More Certified Open

1) Murray Hill: Local Irish pub mini-chain Pig 'N' Whistle has opened up a new location?its fifth?in Murray Hill. DNAinfo writes up the restaurant, which opened last week in what used to be Patrick Kavanagh Pub. The food menu is a combination of Irish staples and straight-up pub grub, and the bar has DJs some nights, plus karaoke on Wednesdays and traditional Irish music on Sundays. 2) Upper East Side: Zagat gets word that the team behind Village Italian restaurant Il Cantinori have opened The Bar Room up on East 60th Street. The dinner menu leans American?for example, roasted beets, chicken liver toast, a burger?and is served starting at 5 p.m. daily, and beginning next week the restaurant will be open for breakfast and lunch as well. 3) Brooklyn Heights: A new café called Mara's Bakery & Café soft opened today on Livingston Street, Brooklyn Heights Blog reports. It has coffee and pastries, of course, but reportedly also serves gelato, sandwiches, and pies. It's open from 6 a.m. (7 on the weekends) through 10 p.m. Status: Certified Open; 88 Livingston St., 718-522-6461.

4) Noho: Zagat also filed last week on Malbec and Tango House, which opened around a month ago on Lafayette. The concept really centers around tango performances, though there's a standalone bar/restaurant area with Argentinian food and wine. Status: Certified Open; 428 Lafayette, 212-419-4645.
