Daniel Boulud has hired Ghaya Oliveira to be the executive pastry chef at his four-star flagship, Daniel. Oliveira comes from Bar Boulud and Boulud Sud. Her work at the latter earned her a 2012 James Beard nomination in the Outstanding Pastry Chef category. She replaces Sandro Micheli, who announced plans to move to France earlier this year.
In a statement, Boulud notes: "Ghaya is a success story that I never tire of telling—pastry was not her first career, and she's worked her way up within the organization. She is a rare culinary talent, constantly growing and innovating, and precisely the type of chef I look to helm my flagship restaurant." Corporate pastry chef Eric Bertoia will continue to oversee the Bar Boulud and Boulud Sud pastry programs with new hire Tyler Atwell. Congrats to Oliveira for accepting one of the most coveted positions in the pastry universe.
