Club/Restaurant Toy Closing, Will Relocate This Fall

Toy, the Asian-themed club/restaurant run by El Chod's China Grill Management and the party-brunch twins Daniel and Derek Koch, is leaving its home in the MePa's Gansevoort Hotel for greener pastures elsewhere. And it's doing it soon: The restaurant will close after a "relocation party" there this Thursday. A statement from the partners says that the move is simply because "the concept and its popularity has outgrown the space it is in," rather than a soured relationship with the hotel. That suggests there may be even more room for crazy fractal mirror ceilings and Nintendo store accoutrements in Toy 2.0.

The other details are still fuzzy right now, but El Chod and the Kochs are opening an offshoot of Toy in Mexico City in August, with the relocated NYC version shooting for some time after that, but before the end of the year. They're reportedly still looking for the relocated Toy's new location.

Here's the full statement from the restaurant:

Hospitality companies Dual Groupe and China Grill Management will be taking their dining and nightlife destination, TOY from the Gansevoort Meatpacking hotel to a new NYC location that will open later in 2013. While TOY loved "playing" in the Meatpacking District, the concept and its popularity has outgrown the space it is in, and a search for a space that can accommodate its full concept-has begun.

This said, TOY remains very much open until this upcoming Thursday, June 27th when it will host a "re-location celebration" in honor of its success and move. The Oyster Bar in the hotel lobby will remain open for breakfast, lunch and dinner satisfying dining needs of hotel guests. In the meantime were excited to announce the continued collaboration of Dual Groupe and China Grill Management in the development of TOY in Mexico City which will open up at the Camino Real hotel in August.

Dual Groupe and CGM look forward to entertaining everyone again at the new NYC TOY space in which we will continue offering patrons the inventive food, hand crafted cocktails and experiential nightlife that fans have come to love and expect- along with some new surprises. A new location in NYC will be announced soon?
