Mario Carbone, Rich Torrisi, and Jeff Zalaznick have scrapped their plans for a sandwich shop down the street from their mega-hit, Carbone. Instead, they will open ZZ's Clam Bar, a seafood counter, at 169 Thompson St. this Saturday. Flo Fab reports that the new restaurant will have 12 seats, and a menu with raw bar items and 15 crudo plates. Mario and Rich plan to serve things like Japanese sardines with Cara Cara oranges, tuna tartare with bone marrow, and amber jack with ricotta and caviar.
Jeff Zalaznick tells Eater: "After making and eating hundreds of lobster club sandwiches, we decided that we do not want to serve them and we decided to focus the concept in a different direction." ZZ's Clam Bar will also offer a menu of original cocktails, and guests will be able to make reservations for the bar's 12 seats. ZZ's Clam Bar will be open for dinner, Tuesday through Saturday. "ZZ" is Jeff's nickname.
