A fire broke out at the original Coney Island location of Nathan's Famous on Saturday morning at around 9:30 a.m. Firefighters rushed to the scene and put out the blaze about 20 minutes later, and, thankfully, there were no injuries. The restaurant has been closed since October, when Hurricane Sandy's floodwaters caused significant damage to the space. No word yet on when the restaurant will reopen, but before the fire, the management was hoping for a Memorial Day reopening date. The nearby boardwalk location opened at the end of March.
