1) Cinco de Mayo
When: Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Where: Gran Electrica
What: Gran Electrica is hosting a day-long party in honor of Cinco de Mayo with drink specials and a DJ. The garden, which officially opened for the season last week, will be open for festive al fresco drinking.[Photo: Gran Electrica]
2) Crawfish Boil
When: Today, 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m.
Where: Sycamore Bar & Flowershop
What: This afternoon, Sycamore Bar and Flowershop in Brooklyn is hosting their fourth annual Crawfish Boil. There will be three servings through the day, each chock full of crawfish and pints of Abita beer. $25 gets you a large bucket of crawfish and a pint of seasonal beer, with additional pints available for $5 a piece. 3) NYC Bake Sale
When: Today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: Brooklyln Flea
What: The Brooklyn Flea is playing host to the NYC Bake Sale again to raise money for the No Kid Hungry Campaign and Share Our Strength's efforts to end childhood hunger across the country. There will be baked goods of all shapes and sizes for sale—gluten-free, vegan, sweet, savory. Donations can be made online, and raffle tickets will be for sale throughout the day today. 4) Kentucky Derby Party
When: Today, 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Tipsy Parson
What: Today Derby Day, and in honor of the occasion, Tipsy Parson is hosting a Kentucky Derby party at Drive-In Studios. Guests are invited to come dressed up in their finest seersucker suits, floral dresses, and outrageous hats. There will be unlimited Southern-inspired food and cocktails, a raffle, a live Bluegrass band, and a live viewing of the big race, of course. 5) Food Book Fair
When: Today & Tomorrow
Where: Wythe Hotel & Pure Kitchen
What: This weekend, the Food Book Fair is back and once again brining together food publications from around the world. The event program includes a varied lineup of talks and tastings. This afternoon, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., an event called Foodieodicals will feature editors and writers from publications like Lucky Peach and Edible Magazine discussing the world of food publishing over free snacks and Brooklyn Brewery beer. Tomorrow, Elizabeth Faulker and Ovenly's Agatha Kulaga and Erin Patinkin will talk about the art of producing a cookbook. There are still some tickets available.
Also of Note: Smorgasburg is on for this weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with vendors like Pizza Moto, Red Hook Lobster Pound, and Mighty Quinn's. The Hester Street Fair is open for business this weekend as well. In honor of Cinco de Mayo, Thrillist is hosting a Taco Knockout tomorrow, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Villain in Brooklyn. There will be margaritas, michiladas, and unique tacos from Best Pizza, Exchange Alley, and NY Shishi Ko. Tickets are $45. Looking to try a new restaurant this weekend?
