Status: Opening Tonight
Tonight, chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and restaurateur Phil Suarez will open ABC Cocina, a colorful, Latin-themed spinoff of ABC Kitchen in the former Pipa space. Like their hit restaurant next door, the food here is made with locally sourced ingredients, and many of the dishes are cooked in a wood-fired oven. ABC Kitchen's superstar chef Dan Kluger is running the kitchen here along with chef de cuisine Ian Coogan. Paulette Cole, the CEO and Creative Director of ABC Carpet & Home, is also a partner in the new restaurant.
The majority of the menu is devoted to shareable small plates. Some of the highlights include: peekytoe crab fritters with ramp remoulade, shrimp with garlic and chili oil, mussels with chorizo, spring pea empanadas, chipotle chicken tacos, and cheese fondue. The "wood-burning grill" section of the menu features things like beef tenderloin "burnt ends" with chimichurri, salmon with clams and romesco, baby back ribs, and, yes, a $15 cheeseburger. Like ABC Kitchen, the space was built with eco-friendly materials. Check out the menus below, and stay tuned for a tour of the space on Monday.
