Here's a look outside the long-in-the-works Midtown location of Ippudo, the Japanese ramen chain with a beloved five-year-old East Village location. There's been radio silence from Ippudo on this expansion for close to a year now, but there sure are signs of life here. Employees at Maria Pia next door report that work has definitely been going on at the 5,000-square-foot space, including painting (with the fumes apparently making their way into the neighboring restaurant), and while all was quiet early Monday afternoon, folks at the hotel across the street confirm the Maria Pia crew's report.
Last summer, New York Magazine projected a December opening, but December's come and gone with no updates. According to an employee at the East Village location, there's no firm opening date, but Ippudo Midtown should open in June.
